Global Selection Programme Entry 2024
Opens 4 Sep 2023 08:00 AM (CEST)
Deadline 5 May 2024 11:00 PM (CEST)
Description

Information and conditions:

Thank you for applying to UWC via the Global Selection Programme, for entry into the IB Diploma Programme in September 2024 (January 2025 at Waterford Kamhlaba UWC of Southern Africa). You will be able to start completing this application form from 4 September 2023.

The UWC movement has 18 campuses on four continents, with different characteristics but sharing the same mission, spirit, and values.

In addition to providing a demanding academic programme, all UWCs consider it essential to broaden the perspectives of their students through activities such as service in the community, engagement with current global issues, creative activities, and sport. Each UWC strives for the greatest diversity possible in terms of the countries of origin and backgrounds of its students.

On top of providing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), two of our UWCs also provide the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP). UWC Maastricht is offering their IBCP in Sustainable Business, while UWC Pearson College is offering the IBCP for their Climate Action Leadership Diploma.

About the application

In your application, you will be asked to select which UWC you would like to apply to, and you can select up to five UWCs in your application. Please make sure you only select UWCs that you would be very happy to attend and that you have a good understanding of the fees, subject choices and extra-curricular activities of those schools. The application fee you pay depends on the number of schools you choose to apply to. The application fee starts at £180 if you select one school in your application, increasing to £300 if you select five schools.

Please note that UWC Adriatic, UWC Robert Bosch College, and UWC South East Asia are not participating in the GSP for this application period. Additionally, if you are a Chinese citizen residing in mainland China, please be aware that you will have to apply to UWC via the Chinese National Committee.

You will be asked to enter both of your parent's/guardian's email addresses so that they can fill in a parental/guardian consent form. Please note that we need to receive their consent forms before we invite you for the online selection day. Your parent(s)/guardian(s) will also need to agree that they are able to pay the full amount towards the school or college that you will be nominated to, if your application is successful.

Please be aware that each school has a different fee, and that there are no scholarships available from UWC International or the schools and colleges when applying through the UWC Global Selection Programme so you will need to discuss your school choices with your parents/guardians before submitting your application to UWC. You can locate the fee ranges of each school here. If you need financial aid to attend UWC, please do not continue your GSP application and reach out to your country's UWC national committee instead. You can find your national committee's website and contact details here.

Please note you are not permitted to use artificial intelligence programmes to help your application.

After submitting your application

We review applications as they are completed, and invite shortlisted applicants to the online selection days on an ongoing basis - the sooner you send in your application, the sooner we can give you a decision. The longer you wait to submit your application, the fewer places there will be available at our schools and colleges. We aim to let you know whether you're invited to the online selection day within 1 month of receiving your completed application, though this may take longer depending on the number of applications we receive and on the availability of our volunteer reviewing panel.

Applications are reviewed by a global team of selectors to determine each applicant's suitability for UWC. Short-listed applicants will be invited to an online selection day, which includes multiple group activities with other GSP candidates, an interview, and an emotional wellbeing questionnaire. All elements of UWC global selections are conducted in English (you do not need to be a native speaker).

After attending an online selection day, candidates find out whether or not they will be nominated to a UWC. If a candidate is nominated to a UWC, it means they are being considered for a place at one of the schools selected on their application - it does not mean they have been accepted. Candidates who are nominated to a UWC will be asked to complete a medical form for the school or college they are nominated to in order to assess how best to support them during their time at UWC. All information provided in this form will be held in confidence as part of the candidate’s health record and will be shared with the UWC school or college that the candidate is nominated to,  as well as - strictly on an as-needed basis - with UWC International. The content may be shared with medical professionals or organisations to the extent necessary to provide appropriate medical assessments, care and treatment for the student.

Important instructions about the application stage

  • Your first and second parent/guardian will need to provide their consent to support your application.
  • Once we have received the parental consent, you will be asked to enter your personal information and select the UWC school(s) you would like to apply to. You can select only one school, or up to five schools if you prefer.
  • You will be asked to select multiple dates for your availability to attend an Online Selection Day, if your application is successful. To be considered for the dates you have selected, you will need to submit your application at least three weeks before your earliest selected date.
  • You will then be asked to pay an application fee. Depending on the number of schools you have selected, this fee will start at 180 GBP for one school, and increase to 300 GBP for five schools.
  • Once you have paid the application fee, you will be able to access the rest of your application. Your application will be accepted for consideration when you have completed all of the tasks, and have clicked the 'submit' button.

If you have any questions about the application process please look at our website or contact globalselections@uwcio.uwc.org

We wish you the very best of luck with your application!
